I am in need to 14 fabulous 20 min or less acts for a large event on the
eve of Feb. 10th. 2008. This will definelty need to include a few fire
performers, stilt walkers, jugglers, belly dancers, contortionists, hoop
dancers etc etc and any other acts involving hot females or death defying
feats :>

Finally, the true story about the Haddonfield Babysitter Murderer is revealed in this suspense-filled, gorefest comedy by the Primitive Screwheads, who will be performing this show for the first time in SCREW-U-VISION, a revolutionary sensory process in which audiences will be given special glasses that will make it seem like the actors are not on stage, but they'll swear the actors are sitting on right in their laps.

The Shiva Vista Project is an art installation *by* fire performers *for* fire performers at night and for other individuals and groups during the day. Shiva Vista will create an atmosphere for fire performers, theatrics, sunrise yoga, circus entertainers, poetry, fashion shows, etc. to play, interact, and display their talent six feet above the playa for all to see their evolution, their transformation from one year to the next. When the Shiva Vista is not being used for scheduled performances, it will be available to anyone to use for meditation, shade, drumming, as well as spontaneous fire art and beyond.

History and inspiration...
Shiva is one of three aspects of the Hindu trinity representing divinity. Brahma is the first aspect, considered the creator, Vishnu the second aspect considered the preserver and Shiva, the destroyer. Shiva's function is to destroy all the worlds at the end of creation and dissolve them into nothingness, void, from which point Brahma again creates the world, completing the circle of life. Shiva is responsible for change, both in the form of death and destruction and in shedding old habits to start anew. Shiva's destruction is positive, that of nourishment and construction that builds and transforms life and energy for the welfare of the world and all that inhabit it. Shiva destroys to renew and regenerate. This is the destruction of an artist, a surgeon, a cook; evolution. Through destruction is facilitated the smooth transition of things and events from one stage to another.

The Shiva Vista project represents the theme at Burning Man this year and the continued evolution of Controlled Burn and the Fire Conclave Convergence Camp in the sense that this installation is intended to be built this year and used over the next couple of years, facilitating change, evolution, the shedding of old and creation of new, recycling and the circle of all life. Additions to the original structure are in the design process and will be added for Burning Man 2008, at which time it will be burned as it was designed to do, fulfilling the inevitable departure from existence into nothingness and oblivion!

An evening with IZANAI- a Japanese dance phenomenon

Xenodrome 1320 Potrero St. (at 25th) in San Francisco.

While we were in Japan recently we had the honor of meeting Suga- the founder of the Izanai Dance Academy, with studios across Japan and over 7000 active dance troupes. They are incredibly well known in Japan, and have produced large scale festivals and touring dance musicals for over 20 years.

Izanai means ‘Sacred Invitation’ and their goal is to bring about heaven on earth, right here right now, through dance. And when you see them perform you will see that they are getting pretty close!! When they presented their dance to us in Japan we were overawed, amazed, inspired, and moved to tears.
They really mean it.

We are thrilled to announce that Suga is coming to visit, along with 4 of her lead dancers.

We are welcoming them to San Francisco by having an evening in their honor at XENODROME.

This event is FREE (with donations gratefully accepted)

These people are AMAZING and if you are interested in dance, Japanese culture, or just the possibilities of human potential, then this is an event not to be missed!!

They will be presenting a scaled down dance performance, and then you will have a chance to meet and mingle with them.

Wanna make computer/synth music for the playa?

Center Camp Café is putting together a few CDs of ambient music to be played at various times- when we need something creative to fill a scheduling gap, for example.

The CDs will comprise individual tracks from many playa composers. The only requirements are

1) All material must be original work, composed and realized solely by the submitters, and

2) There can be no recognizable words (non-verbal vocals are OK).

If you'd like to submit some music, please send us links to online mp3s. If you have no mp3s online, you could use a file transfer service (do a web search on "free file transfer"). Wav or aif files would work, too. If you'd like to mail a CD, please ask me for a surface mail address (mailed CDs will not be returned).

Xeno Performance Group is holding 2 days of categorized but open auditions to fill one or two new spots in the ensemble for the collaborative creation and performance of the group's new seasonal show (opening for a minimum of six weeks starting this May as part of ArtSFest2006.)

If cast, auditioners should be prepared to rehearse 2-3 times a week until the show opens and 1-2 times a week afterwards. Rehearsals, in general, take place on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:30pm - 9:30pm and Sundays from 11am-2pm (although Sunday rehearsals may or may not continue). All casting is for this season's show only, with the possibility of further collaboration and company membership.

AUDITIONS:
- The auditions on Saturday, February 4th will be devoted only to MALE DANCER/PERFORMERS.

- The auditions on Sunday, February 5th will be open to ALL interested auditioners from any discipline, although priority for spots will be given to FEMALE SINGER/PERFORMERS.

- The auditions are first-come-first-served. There will be a sign-up sheet in the gallery space where you enter the building.

- All dance auditoners will be asked to integrate and present taught passages of movement and they may, if they wish and time permits, present any pre-prepared short acts of their own of 5 minutes or less of movement, poetry, monologue, song or other special talent.

- Emphasis will be placed on BREADTH as well as DEPTH of ability. Any experience in the following realms will be helpful: ballet, modern, African, hip hop, freestyle, jazz, tap, gymnastics, acro, trapeze, tissu, spanish web, aerial dance, capoeira, diving, stunts, belly dance, stage combat, butoh, costume/fashion design & construction, wall & rock climbing, skating, stilting, unicycling, juggling, fire dance, stand-up comedy, martial arts, yoga, Pilates, clowning, escape/illusion, carpentry, welding, acting, writing, directing, videography, graphic design, any musical talents, etc, etc, etc.

A word or two about Xeno:
Springing from their earliest collaborations as the performance band AWD (1996-2000), the members of Xeno have spent these last nine years together creating their own hybrid style of performance. Xeno's ongoing creation has secured its place as one of San Francisco’s most innovative and beloved companies. The composition of the show spans many disparate artforms, media, moods, styles, genres and flavors and is difficult to encapsulate for those who have not yet experienced a live Xeno show.

About the Event:

With well over 75,000 people spreading the love along Market Street and at Civic Center, the 2005 Love Parade was a great success. The costs for city fees and personnel required for a downtown parade were huge however. So to offset those, many groups are coming together this coming weekend to raise the money to pay off the remaining debts, so that planning for Love Parade San Francisco 2006 can proceed full steam ahead!

For all those many people who forgot to give the $5 donation at the Love Parade gates, here is your chance to help make sure that Love Parade stays a yearly event in San Francisco, a city with an international reputation for Love in the streets.

All equipment, talent and labor for these events is being donated by the community and all proceeds will be split evenly between SomArts and Love Parade San Francisco!

The SomArts Cultural Gallery is a non-profit art gallery and event space that hosted many seminal electronic dance and art parties until those were prohibited in 1996 because of permitting problems. Because of the importance of SomArts to the community, the SFLNC pushed the City to allow entertainment at SomArts and full time late night permits were granted in 2003. Recently, SomArts completed a major building project to allow high occupancy for events, so the community is now coming together to help pay off some of SomArts construction loans! After almost ten years, SomArts will now be fully available to the community for special events!!!

My home style is a mix of blues and Turkish maqam, with a dash of Grotowski theater techniques. Excellent at improv. Zero interest in covers, though happy to learn original material. Also play computers and keyboards.

Xenodrome is a musical instrument. Notes, ideas, ideas of notes must come out of the bellows. Bellows are for stoking fires. Instigation. Conflagration. Deviation.

The pumping arms come from the garden. They pump air out of the theater, push it through the gallery, and out the roll up doors, whether they are open or not. All smokers know this.

Danielle, the instigator of the garden, knows this. Whenever there is a problem, she smokes at the spool, and waits for people to answer their own questions.

danse escalade

hey there,

just moved to the bay area to start my own dance project: dancing on a climbing wall. ("danse escalade" is what they call in in france, choreographed climbing in other words). i am still in the process of building to wall, baby steps. but things will hopefully fall into place (or fall somewhere) pretty soon here. I did some wall work with Anoine Le Menestrel in France this spring. He also incorporates aerial dance. If anybody is interested in what i do, let me know. i am planning on performing next year at burning man, might even attach the climbing wall to an art car. that way the performance would be mobile.

It's a Social Thing

An article in today's LA Times Sports section about a sculpture being dedicated in San Jose caught my eye and ricocheted my soul to tribe.

In 1968, two athletes raised their fists at the Olympics in Mexico City on the medal stand and made their stand for social power, and are now being remembered for it, instead of being vilified. A 23 foot sculpture is being dedicated on the San Jose State campus, and it's being sponsored by pride and a desire to honor American patriots. Read the article at www.latimes.com/sports...

Social Power, you say? According to these two athletes, it was about questioning the rules of protest and patriotism in challenging times.

Social Power is their own term for it. Sounds effective, no?

Can you imagine over 500,000 American soldiers in Iraq? Can you imagine the horrors of Bush's war being broadcast in color everynight at 6 pm, whether you liked it or not, on your only choice of entertainment? Can you imagine your brother coming home mentally unstable because of what you had been watching every night for years and years? (In those not long ago days, your other choices were getting high, having sex and going to the movies, and trying not to get caught for the first two.)

The sculpture was paid for by the San Jose State Associated Students fees, which are student run, and independent of the State College system, thankfully.

This should teach us a lesson. Just read the damn article, find out about it, disagree, and don't let the lesson go fuzzy from too much easy input.

Check it out....read, gain knowledge, grow strong, protest, make change, live, for a change...
